Description

"To prepare and motivate men and women in California agriculture for more effective leadership."

The California Agricultural Leadership Program (Program) is an intensive two-year fellowship that provides selected individuals with an exceptional professional and personal leadership development experience. The experience is global and comprehensive in nature to reflect the on-going dynamic of California's $30 billion agricultural economy. The Program has more than 1,000 alumni.

Program Outcomes
Our learning model creates a safe and powerful environment for group and individual experiential learning that:

  • Strengthens and matures leadership skills
  • Confronts and resolves personal barriers to change and adaptability
  • Enlightens personal and societal core values, challenges, and perspectives
  • Develops the capacity to better communicate ideas through open dialogue and to problem-solve on complex contemporary issues
  • Creates a long-term statewide connection to industry and issues leaders
  • Enables and reinforces a personal culture for lifelong learning, leading, and fostering results-oriented leadership

Program Overview
Through on-going interaction with faculty and peers, Program participants are better prepared to assess and to deal effectively with the complicated, evolving strategic issues that influence agriculture, society, community, family and government. The Program, however, is firmly rooted upon the importance of the individual experience and intentionally introduces participants to frequently unfamiliar and at times uncomfortable situations. As a result, participants develop a close camaraderie and, most importantly, a profound appreciation for the ability to listen and to learn from others and their environments.

Program alumni have consistently risen to leadership positions within their enterprises, agricultural and industry organizations, non-profit and community organizations, and local, state and federal governments, including the California Legislature and the United States Congress.
