WHAT IS A BEQUEST?
Bequests are gifts that are made to a charity or foundation as part of a will or trust. In general, bequests are the most common type of planned gift to a nonprofit organization.

There are several types of bequests to suit your family’s needs and preferences:
-Unrestricted: allows for the foundation to determine the best use of funds.
-Restricted: directs the assets to a specific fund or to establish a named fund.

WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE A BEQUEST?
-A bequest costs nothing now but provides for a gift to Ag Leadership in the future.
-Enables your full control of your assets during your lifetime.
-The gift itself is exempt from federal estate taxes.

HOW CAN I LET THE FOUNDATION KNOW OF MY INTENT TO LEAVE A LEGACY GIFT?

A life income gift is an agreement that provides benefits to you and your loved ones while also providing future benefits to Ag Leadership. You can learn more about each below and compare the benefits across options to determine which may best serve you and your family.

CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITY - WHAT IS IT?
A charitable gift annuity provides income for you or your family while also leaving a future gift to Ag Leadership. The beneficiary will likely receive tax benefits and possibly reduce or eliminate estate taxes.

CHARITABLE REMAINDER UNITRUST - WHAT IS IT?
A charitable remainder unitrust is an irrevocable transfer of assets to a trustee who invests the assets and pays you or your beneficiaries variable annual payments for the term. At the end of the term, the remainder is given to Ag Leadership as a gift. This vehicle is tax exempt and excludes capital gains tax when the asset is sold. While payments to the beneficiary are taxable as income, you are entitled to a tax deduction, which can vary.

CHARITABLE REMAINDER TRUST - WHAT IS IT?
A charitable remainder annuity trust is an irrevocable transfer of assets to a trustee who makes fixed payments to you or your beneficiaries for a specific term. At the end of the term, the remainder is given to Ag Leadership as a gift. Why would I choose a CRU? How can I set it up?

WHAT IS IT?
A charitable lead trust is an irrevocable transfer of assets to a trustee who makes an annual payment from the trust to Ag Leadership for a specified term. When the trust terminates, assets are distributed to your beneficiaries.

WHY WOULD I CHOOSE A CHARITABLE LEAD TRUST?
This vehicle provides low or no estate and gift taxes and allows you to make annual gifts to Ag Leadership.

IRA QUALIFIED CHARITABLE CONTRIBUTION
You may name Ag Leadership as the payee for the minimum required distribution of your IRA. This enables you to received reduced income tax while making a gift to the foundation.

Note: You must be 70½ or older at the time of distribution and cannot exceed distribution of more than $100,000 in a calendar year to Ag Leadership or other charitable institutions tax-free.

RETIREMENT PLANS OR LIFE INSURANCE
By naming Ag Leadership as the beneficiary of your retirement plan, you may avoid most or all income or estate taxes if it were left to an individual.

REAL ESTATE
Giving real estate directly to Ag Leadership likely will result in a substantial tax reduction for you and/or your estate.
